Blanche Marie Newkirk of Danville, Illinois, formerly of Covington, age 85, died Thursday afternoon, February 17, in International Nursing Home at Danville. She was born in Fountain County, May 7, 1897, the daughter of James and Minnie Pugh Hopper. February 16, 1916, she married Arthur Newkirk, who died March 31, 1940. Mrs. Newkirk was a cook at Webster Memorial Home in Danville, Illinois, from 1953 to 1963 and had also worked at the former Covington canning factory.

  Survivors include a daughter, Ola Turner of Covington; four sons, Donald A. of Covington, George W. of St. Petersburg, Florida, James L. of Brookston and Robert C. of Bedford, Texas; four sisters, Ruth Lilley and Pauline Waterstradt, both of Attica, Mabel Jones and Anna Carpenter, both of Danville; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a step granddaughter.

  Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Edgar Allen officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Covington. – thanks to S
